Grants: Mayor Sharon Weston Broome announced the awarding of $135,000 in community development dollars to six local organizations tasked with improvement projects in the Scotlandville, Melrose East, Old South Baton Rouge, Glen Oaks/Zion City and Northdale/Choctaw neighborhoods. The awards will go to Scotlandville Community Development Corporation, Melrose East Community Association, South Baton Rouge Civic Association, Baton Rouge, Zion City, and Glen Oaks Community Development Corporation, the Mid City Redevelopment Alliance and The Walls Project.
Treating addiction: Lafayette-based Lake Wellness Center announced the opening of seven new outpatient addiction treatment clinics throughout south Louisiana to treat opioid addictions.The centers—in New Orleans, Metairie, Covington, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles and Houma—offer comprehensive care for treating addiction with both behavioral therapy and medication. The Baton Rouge clinic is on Picardy Avenue.
Quarter: ExxonMobil Corporation today announced estimated first quarter earnings of $2.4 billion, compared with $4.7 billion in 2018. During the quarter, the company distributed $3.5 billion in dividends to shareholders. ExxonMobil’s capital and exploration expenditures were $6.9 billion, up 42% from 2018, which reflects the company’s investments in the Permian Basin. ExxonMobil’s oil-equivalent production was 4 million barrels per day, up 2% from the first quarter of 2018.
